September 30, 2021 Dear Families, As we move into October, we wanted to make you aware of some changes to our Covid19 guidelines at SJS. Yesterday, RIDOH made some important modifications to their Covid19 Playbook for Schools:
Previously, all unvaccinated siblings without symptoms had to be sent home or needed to stay home pending the symptomatic household member’s test results. Yesterday, RIDOH updated this policy, which now states that siblings or household members MAY remain in school regardless of vaccination status while waiting for test results for the symptomatic/asymptomatic individual(s). In addition, the policy indicates that a student will be sent home if they present with one major symptom or two minor symptoms. Students sent home with one major/two minor symptoms will need to present a negative PCR test in order to return to school.
SJS will be reinstating use of the After Illness Attestation Form. This document must be filled out by parents if a test is not required and sent back to school when you child returns. It is available through the Main Office and linked here. Although we are reviewing the travel policies, we are currently requesting all domestic travelers be tested upon return. As soon as you receive a negative PCR, you may return to school. International travelers require a seven day quarantine with a negative PCR on day 5.
Clarification of the 2021-2022 Distance Learning Plan The intention of remote instruction is to provide students with access to education ONLY if they must remain home for COVID19 illness or quarantine or awaiting test results. It is not intended for a sick day. If you are ill, you should take the day to rest. It is also not intended for convenience for travel, appointments, and family functions. We appreciate your understanding in this matter. SJS students may Distance Learn (DL) under the following conditions:
COVID related illness If a student is too ill to participate, he/she should rest for the day. Arrangements must be made to pick up materials.
Quarantine If a student needs to quarantine for any reason, they may attend school virtually. Arrangements must be made to pick up materials.
Travel Students who are traveling MAY NOT DL while on vacation if they are away during regularly scheduled school times. They may DL when they return from vacation and need to follow quarantine protocols before returning to school in person.
Please note the following regarding Athletics/Activities at SJS If a student is not present in school, or is Distance Learning due to COVID 19 illness or quarantine, they MAY NOT attend any team practices. If the illness or absence is on Friday, that player MAY NOT play in a Saturday game. This is school policy and applies to all school sanctioned activities and events.
We appreciate your adherence to these modifications going forward. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or Mrs. Garrett, School Nurse at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SJS is requesting that families pre-screen children prior to coming to school. There are several symptoms associated with Covid19 and to maintain a safe and healthy school environment, your child will need to say home with any ONE of the following Major symptoms, or any TWO of the following Minor symptoms. A negative PCR is required to return to school.
Major Symptoms: Cough (new), Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing, New loss of taste or smell Minor Symptoms: Fever or chills, Congestion/Runny nose (new), Fatigue, Muscle/Body Aches, Headache, Sore Throat, Nausea or vomiting, Diarrhea
If a child has any of these symptoms, please notify Mrs. Garrett.
Medications This year the school will be asking any child that needs to have medication administered or held for an emergency at school, to complete the attached form. This form and the medication(s) will be given to the school nurse. Medication should be in the original package/bottle. Also please make sure medication has not expired. For any questions or concerns, please contact Meg Garrett, RN email@example.com.
