In Kindergarten, scribbles become our sentences. We begin writing with where they are most comfortable. As we all know, these children are bursting with thoughts and notions of their world. These thoughts are what makes great sentences and eventually amazing stories. Our kindergartners at St. Joe’s are ready to delve into their new writing journals. Their parents participated in a writing process workshop with our kindergarten teachers earlier this month. Following a Power Point on stages of the writing process including how writing is assessed, each parent lovingly stitched and designed original writing journals for his/her child. Presentation to the children was reminiscent of Christmas morning. Writing is a skill that requires daily practice. Journaling is a great way for our kindergartners to articulate thoughts and measure their progress. They sharpened their writing and exploring skills the other day with their grade 5 buddies. Together they filled out a survey called All About My Buddy and All About Me. They all enjoyed their time together!
